We are excited to announce a foundational gift from Mars Veterinary Health as Veterinary Sustainability Alliance (VSA) takes the next steps in advancing our mission to preserve and protect animal and human health by promoting sustainability. This partnership will provide extensive learning and networking opportunities, resources, and training to help all veterinary professionals practice sustainable medicine. This gift was first announced earlier this fall at the Mars Veterinary Health Pet Healthcare Industry Summit. Part of this summit discussed reducing the climate change impacts of veterinary medicine, integrating sustainability into veterinary school curricula, and embedding sustainable practices in veterinary clinic operations.
“Supporting learning, transparency, and collaboration across veterinary medicine is essential to address the urgent challenges we encounter in our journey to creating a more sustainable future,” said Margo Mosher, global sustainability lead, Mars Veterinary Health. “By uniting our efforts, we can take action on a global scale to ensure our cherished profession actively contributes to a thriving and sustainable future for pets, people, and our planet for generations to come.”
One of the initiatives VSA will be championing is the process of green certification for veterinary practices across different sectors regardless of species building on the Pathway to a More Sustainable Practice (co-released with American Veterinary Medical Association and Canadian Veterinary Medical Association) released earlier this fall. The support from Mars Veterinary Health, including its expertise and drive for sustainability, will be key in helping develop this certification in the future.
“Veterinary professionals are extremely passionate about caring for animals and for the planet that they depend on,” said Will Sander, Founding Director, Veterinary Sustainability Alliance. “We’re thrilled to partner with Mars Veterinary Health to integrate sustainability into the veterinary sector.”
